It was a Monday afternoon when I trudged through the front door, tired from another day of second-semester senior year and already quite ready for the weekend. I glanced at the mail, hoping for a college acceptance or even the slightest indicator of acknowledgment by a college, but to no avail. I should’ve known. I shouldn’t get my hopes up to hear from them until roughly the week or so before their response deadline of April 1.
But as I walked into my room, casting off my backpack and collapsing onto the bed, I glimpsed a small package in a cardboard box. It was taped up so extremely and of such dimensions that I had good reason to suspect it was a bomb. But when I finally pried away all the tape, it was something quite different. Quite a bit more heavenly. It was a Flip camera.
Not just any Flip camera, mind you, but THE Food Chain Flip, indicating that it was now my turn to film, edit, and post the next installment for this most grandiose and ingenious of foodie endeavors. I battled my way through the week a bit more optimistically, thinking all along of my plans for the weekend: a chocolate-chip cookie bake-off in which my recipe for fluffy luv patties would be involved in a tete-a-tete of the grandest proportions against a recipe from Foodie at Fifteen. The catch? Both of us claimed we’d concocted THE recipe for the end-all, be-all, ultimate chocolate chip cookie. I decided to investigate.
Below is the result of my hours-long toil in the kitchen. The Academy called me this afternoon and actually told me they want to make a special exception; my film is so well-edited and so profound that they want to nominate it for best film. So… if that isn’t sufficient enticement for you to watch, I don’t know what is.
