Sure, I eat plenty of snobby foods. My affinity for only the best chocolates is one of many testimonies to that fact. All the same, I can’t get past my disdain for “scented” foods. Rose-scented ganache, orange-scented scones… I’m seeing it everywhere, and it’s just a burden I can’t overcome. I find it so repellent and pretentious… again, not because I’m above pretentious foods (I did have foie gras last night, and I’d jump at any opportunity to incorporate truffles into my everyday diet), but because it just seems so… wrong. To “scent” something is essentially to flavor it, is it not? So when you have an orange-scented chocolate chip scone, are you not just incorporating some zest here and there?
Point blank, scented foods make me think of eating the food itself in a room that has been heavily doused with a particular perfume. And no, I don’t want to eat a chocolate chip scone in a room whose walls have been coated with orange perfume.
This is just a rant.
