Look forward to an Oreo faceoff. We will be deciding once and for all whether it’s better to take the preservative-filled, chemical-ridden route (hey, there’s nothing wrong with that when it’s in the context of delightful Oreos) or if we should sacrifice convenience for the heavenly-ness of from-scratch, thin crispy chocolate wafers sandwiched with mmmmm creme.

Did you give anything up for Lent?
Last year, I gave up chocolate and it was nearly the death of me. I literally cried on the first day. In case you didn’t know, the top shelf of my locker is actually a pantry. I had some wondrous Oreo-esques that I got from Whole Foods (so much better than the originals) as well as some Thin-Mint-esques (SO. MUCH. BETTER. THAN. THE. ORIGINALS. Let this be heard by all), and to prove to my classmates that I was really going through with this (all odds were against me), I gave them all away… and watched as people ate them, one by one. My heart crumbled a little bit. I brought in peanut butter sandwich cookies the next day but it was not the same.
On Easter Sunday, we went to a place in Austin called Uno’s — the owner has desserts sent in weekly from Italy (or something crazy like that) and I had an obscenely decadent slice of chocolate cake. I also went straight to the Whole Foods flagship and bought myself a whole container of salted caramels enrobed in silky dark chocolate. It was so rewarding.

I gave up underwater sword-fighting, as I always do. Giving up chocolate?! Jamais!
