Here’s how I’m not spending my break:
-in Cancun
-languishing at home
-in civilization
Here’s how I AM spending my break:
-sequestered away at my family’s beach house in Grayton Beach. The house, while a short distance from the beach, is actually cloistered on a dirt road amid a LOT of oak and magnolia trees. There is ZERO cell phone reception. The radio just turns off.
I could not be happier about this choice. After having stayed up until 5AM on Wednesday night, I was very relieved to be coming to Florida for a quiet week with my family. I have been getting at least eight hours of sleep every night (actually, on Thursday night, I slept for 10 hours — you must understand, this is so unusual for me that I felt stunned when I woke up), reading, and talking to my classmates.
But, you know, this is a food blog, and there is a reason I came here. Because most importantly, my plans for the week include a lot of BAKING. In the works for tomorrow are ham, brie and leek muffins and chocolate truffle cookies. I’m also planning on crispy oatmeal cookies, scallion pancakes, chocolate-caramel crackery crisp, and baked cherry tomatoes.
Mmmmmm. There will be a bonanza of pictures, so stay tuned.
