21st-century scenario: I was leafing through the Serious Eats feed on my blog reader and nearly leapt out of my seat when I saw this post. At the same time, I was Skypeing with a future Brown classmate (hi, Alp!) who lives all the way in Turkey; he can attest to the yelp of excitement that I made at the sight of that gorgeous, rainbow-colored gelato display.

Fenocchio display case
Just in this little snippet (a tiny sliver of the near-infinite selection of parfums, or flavors) contains lime, mandarin orange, orange, peach, lychee, passionfruit, lemon meringue, pear, green apple, pineapple, rhubarb. My favorites were the chocolatey ones, and they had several (I mean, four, five) variations just on the chocolate/hazelnut theme. Even if you’re not a fan, you have to be impressed. This all invites SERIOUS nostalgia. I miss walking down the cobblestoned streets of Vieux Nice, past the socca stand and the old watercolor-shuttered apartments, and hurriedly placing my order for a cup of gelato avec deux parfums amidst the ever-hustling crowd of people.
