I got an email today about a contest that’s being held by the Rib Room, the restaurant at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel. You see, they’re in a bit of a predicament. They have a bar… and the bar has no name. So what are they doing? They realized that the locals had been such an intrinsic part of its history, so they’re turning to us for suggestions. The rules are simple: you submit your idea here by August 3rd; they’ll choose their top ten favorites by August 6th; from there, we vote on a favorite. Democracy in action.
What’s in it for you? Besides the eternal glory you’d get from the knowledge that you’d been a part of the Omni Royal’s history, you’d also get:
VIP weekend at the hotel’s Penthouse Suite
Poolside party on the roof for 20 of your friends
Permanent seat at the bar reserved with a gold plaque with your name on it
If you want in, hurry over to the Rib Room’s website and submit your idea. Good luck!

Hey there! So glad to see another young food dork in NOLA. Do you go to school in the city? I’m a Tulane person (if not obvious). Your blog looks gorgeous, especially the photos from Paris…and I agree with you utterly and completely on the pork belly.
I was born and raised here in NOLA, but I’m headed up to Providence in the fall to start my freshman year at Brown. I’m incredibly, indescribably excited to start school there, but a bit peeved that I can’t take New Orleans and all its glories with me… I think I’ve taken it a bit for granted! I’ll miss my po-boys.
