When people find out I write a food blog, one of the first questions they ask is related to how often I write posts. I tell them that of course it depends on what’s going on in my life, but ideally, I write a post a day, maybe a post every three days.
It’s been five days since my last post. Funny how the nature of the blog world makes that feel like an eternity.
Just thought I’d drop in to say that in those last five days, I have packed up all my worldly possessions, gotten on a plane, and moved hundreds of miles away from my beloved NOLA. This morning, I’ll be moving into my dorm at Brown University. Already, I’ve met some of the most incredible people and had some of the most incredible times – and I’m only just starting. This is all to say I might not be posting as much as I have. I have a HUGE backlog of stuff to post about, so that’s sufficient motivation, but I figure better to acknowledge something in advance than just let it hang.
That right up there is a pistachio chocolate from La Maison du Chocolat. The inside is actually pistachio-y almond paste, which was a little strange but did help to calm and nuance the pistachio flavor. I just like it for the color – one talent LMDC doesn’t prioritize, but Sucré has in spades.

what are you going to be studying at Brown? (i’m in culinary school in providence, which is why this perks my interest) i discovered your blog some time ago while I was living in New Orleans and enjoy your posts. best of luck with the transition, i miss new orleans dearly even though I only lived there for about a year!
I’m not sure what I’ll be studying. Humanities. Philosophy, maybe. I’m also thinking of history, IR, women’s studies, comparative literature… a whole multitude of idealistic things like that. Are you at JWU?! If so, that’s very cool. I hope/plan to go to culinary school post-Brown just so I’ll have enough food knowledge to confidently be able to criticize others’ food, and JWU seems incredible from what I hear. I’m thinking I’ll want to explore a new part of the world by the time that rolls around but you never can tell.
And that’s so funny about you living in NOLA!!! I miss NOLA too, even though I’ve only been gone a few days (I was born and raised there, though). Nice to meet you!
yes i go to JWU, and (aside from the large population of less than intelligent students) it is awesome. when i first started in college i went for journalism and then changed to a history major and then to philosophy and now culinary (what i really wanted to do from the beginning), so i totally understand. that is in part, what college is for. jwu is cool, but there are always culinary schools in europe right!
have you gotten time to eat anywhere in providence so far? how is it stacking up to new orleans?!
i like this blog very much – was linked to it by a Brown fresher who hasn’t met you yet. biking in Ireland sounds great, as does this chocolate from La Maison (oh woe i miss those chocolate macarons) said fresher is Yvonne Yu who is super cool.
This is looks so good. I hope you’re having a great time at Brown.
