It’s true what they say about getting out of the scheme of things. It’s been a month since I blogged and for a second, I entertained the idea of just saying I gave up blogging for Lent… until I realized that, oh hey, I was going two weeks between posting anyway. Fail. Point is, I’m happily swamped at school with every sort of thing I love to do (including a class on ethnic food) and that combined with the fact that I am not exactly going out to eat at myriad sites of fascination means that blogging just kind of takes a backburner. So, sorry for that. I’m gonna try to be better. I just uploaded some photos from a four-day weekend I spent at home and will HOPEFULLY upload them punctually after I get done editing. Until then, here’s something to tide you over…
Fluffy luv patties. Know me for five minutes and you’ll know that I am a total slave to the salty/sweet combination. It’s become a kind of kitschy trend pretty recently and I do think it should be used tastefully and not all the time, but when it works, it is just so glorious. Doughy chocolate chip cookies with chopped dark chocolate and crispy, buttery edges are the perfect canvas for snowy fleur de sel, which makes each bite taste a little different from the others.

FLEUR DE SEL! shit, i love salt. salt is my favorite food. i feel like you were horrified and offended (even though you still love me) by the way i was using the fleur de sel, i.e. more liberally than i should have been. i’m a glutton! anyway this photo could NOT be more visually delicious
……I wish I hadn’t seen that….I was doing so good..!
Wait, how is salty/sweet kitschy now? It’s as old as time…watermelon and salt. best dessert ever. never thought of salty/sweet cookies, though. Interesting…
Well, I should have clarified. I meant just the general trend of salty/sweet desserts, particularly in upscale restaurants. Not that I oppose it: I’m a HUGE fan of salted caramel, as well as Restaurant Stella’s take on a grilled cheese (Delice de Bourgogne and dark chocolate ganache between slices of brioche). It just seems to me that, at least in the commercial world, it’s been kind of played up fairly recently. Again, totally not complaining, just remarking that we’re starting to see more holistic dishes replacing plainer, sweeter desserts, for better or for worse.
hi remy! mmmm…coarse salt on sweet buttery cookies. some people put candied bacon too, which just might be illegal.
mmmm. looks delicious remz! question – would this be almost as tasty with the pre-made store-bought variety of chocolate chip cookies vs. home-made for someone like myself who doesn’t have tons of spare time? If so, do you know the best brand to get? I want to make these this weekend!
